BSC Comet 1 - British Lions II 3
« Thread Started on Oct 16, 2009, 4:14pm »

The Weather was cold, the pitch was soaking wet and the lions second team went into the tough game against Comet on the back of three defeats. Hardly prerequisites for high confidence, yet we reused to have the spirit dampened and Rachid delivered a pre-match teamtalk that was centred essentially around winning three points.

We started well and took the game to our efficient opponents. Chances were carved out early on and it was clear that comet were non too confident at the back, or more importantly, between the sticks.

It was on about 10 minutes that we carved out our first opportunity, the ball falling to Stephen in the area, only to see the keeper pull off a frankly incredible stop. It was from the resulting corner that saw the Lions take the lead – the ball whipped in and planted into the net via his head by the unmarked Orhan.

The lead wasn’t to last too long. Comet found themselves level soon afterwards through the medium of a well struck freekick, although up until then Johannes had had little to do in the Lions’ goal.

We didn’t let the heads go down though and found ourselves back in the lead with about 10 minutes to play in the half. Really the goal was a complete gift, Comet’s defender and goalkeeper with a bit of Led Zeppelin’s “communication breakdown”, resulting in the Centre half pretty much passing the ball into his own net. The lead was restored and we were able to valiantly defend that until half time.

We knew they would come at us in the second half, but the Lions defence, expertly marshalled by the solid Graham, was able to repel everything thrown at them. Paul and Ross in front of them were also doing a sterling job of breaking up the play and allowing us move the ball forward and put pressure on their back four. Indeed, we were able to carve out a few chances and about half way through the half, substitute Andy B chased down a long ball that appeared at first to have gone over the touchline, but hadn’t. Andy laid the ball back, which found it’s way to the waiting Rob C, who, from about 25 yards out, lobbed the keeper and gave us a 3-1 lead. A very good and vitally important goal.

With about 15 minutes to play, we were reduced to 10 men when Ross, who had taken a booking for Graham in the first half after he was wrongly picked out as the player who was adjudged to have clothes-lined the opposition, received a second yellow for, we think, laughing at the referee. Certainly harsh and odd decision but we didn’t let it get to us and we were able to protect the 2 goal cushion with ease. A brilliant and well deserved victory that sees second team off the mark. Long may it continue.

Well done lads !!

I was afraid that Comet kits, which are exactly the same as the spanish national team away kit, would scare you -)

This is the beggining of the recovery, just as the economy !!! see you back in mid-November, keep the flag high !
